The Far occurrence is located northeast of Mount Farnsworth about 40 kilometres east of the community of Atlin.

The area is underlain by cherts, cherty argillites, quartzite and marble of the Mississippian to Triassic Kedahda Formation of the Cache Creek Complex. The strata are folded, having a northeast trending synformal axis coinciding with a ridge. A northeast-trending fault with steep dips cuts the country rock just west of the occurrence.

Chalcopyrite and malachite are reported to occur in a chert unit northeast of Mount Farnsworth. A sample of cherty argillite with malachite stains analyzed 0.117 per cent copper (Assessment Report 7284).

In June 1978, the Geological Survey of Canada released geochemical data on the Atlin map sheet (104N). On basis of this release, the Far claims were staked by Cominco Ltd. to cover an area with a marginal uranium anomaly with coincident zinc, copper, cobalt, mercury and molybdenum values apparently related to a fault extending from alaskite intrusions exposed to the north. In the same year, Cominco conducted geological mapping and collected a total of 7 water samples, 2 stream sediment samples and 2 rock samples for analysis.

Also, in 1978, Mattagami Lake Mines Limited staked the Sal claims south of the occurrence and conducted stream sediment and rock sampling in the area (Assessment Report 7370).
